TADA!!!!!! Here is the new template. After lots of weed-pulling (trying to save my scalp here!) in frustration I finally got the test blog to work after which it was surprisingly painless to transpose the code from the test blog to this one.
For a first effort, I am very pleased with the end result. Please let me know what you think and how do the colours show in your monitors.
Of course now that I understand a little more of CSS I think that I really would like to have three columns instead of two, and maybe a better design, and so on, and so on. Well, I'm going to take a breather and cook and bake some more before attempting to mess around with my template.
Like a kid caught with his hands in the cookie jar, my modem is behaving beautifully this evening. Tomorrow the ISP technician will be here to look at the "problem modem" and I will be very frustrated if it continues on its best behavious, only to start having problems again as soon as the techncian clears the front door!

Sorry I never got to see your old template but this one looks great! Love the colors. They even remind me of pumpkin pie. I want to add a banner like yours so I'll probably be pulling some weeds too!
Hi Ana,
it looks great! I love the choice of pictures for your banner, they fit your theme perfectly. Glad you are back up and running again :)
Great!
and we both got new templates on the same day! How cool is that? It is so inspiring to have a new look
Está lindo, Ana! Sinceramente, adorei! Parabéns!
Thank you, thank you (beet red blushing)!
ohhh so spiffy. You know me though I love a new look! Good luck with the technician.
I like it, Ana. I'm glad you put that great photo of your pudding in the banner!
Looking good, Ana!
Thank you all for your nice comments.
Michelle: thanks for your help with the template. I still kept the graphics inside the style. What was causing a problem were some 000's that were there with the previous graphic and they were the reason my banner did not show. Once I took them out, the banner came through. I still don't know what those zeros were for.
Becky: No, you're not delirious. That is actually my blog's name which I was not able to get rid of once I decided to put the name as part of the banner graphic.
I made the text the same colour as the banner background and I made it as small as I could but obviously it does not work in all systems. I cannot see it in my blog, but you can see it in yours. Hopefully one day I'll find out how to get rid of it.
Update: my son was able to help me correct my blog name that was showing through. The make it seem all so easy! Now the banner has no orange letters showing.
