The History of the 5 Cookbook Meme

If I may shamelessly borrow an excellent idea from Niki at Delicious Days, for having decided to keep track of the meme she created. Many times I've wondered who started and where finished the many memes that float around the blogosphere.

I was tagged by Lyn from Lex Culinaria and answered the "5 Cookbooks Meme". Checking around the previous replies and saw that many people wondered where had it started. So I decided that, although not the author of the meme, I would take it upon myself to see where it started (for cookbooks) and where is it going. I will try to keep this list up-to-date. If you know of anyone that has answered the meme that I have not updated, please let me know. Thanks!

This meme did not start as a cookbook meme, but became one once it was passed onto the cook-blogsphere. In keeping with the cookbook theme, I decided that I would keep track only of the answers given by food-bloggers and the invitations sent to food-bloggers.

This has been a learning experience for me. After searching around Food Blog S'cool I managed to make the list a little tighter but, try as I might, I was not able to make the bullets smaller or all the same. I even checked Niki and Oliver's blog Delicious Days, did a view source to find out how they had done it (I love the way they link the bullets) but could not extrapolate what I saw there to Blogger, so nothing done. And I thought that having been a mainframe programmer would help!!!!

I realize that the list is long and I should use the "read more...", but when I tried to use it the fonts got confused. Sorry!

Update on July 17: I finally found a way to make all the bullets the same; they are square and I would prefer them small and round but I guess I'm not there yet.

And without further ado...

The first food-blogger to get tagged was Amy from Cooking with Amy, who received it from Ashleigh, from Stiched in Holland, a blog dedicated to embroidery. Ashleigh sent it to 4 other non-food bloggers and to Amy.

Wow, this is really impressive. It'd be interesting to see if there are books that are common favourites, or books that are only popular in certain regions and countries.

Clement, one of the best things about doing this was to read what everyone liked and which books were their favourites.

You gave me an idea, I might look into it. Thanks

Dear Ana,
I'm amazed - what a comprehensive list! Great job on the visual depiction, I know this type of "coding" work can be both: time consuming and frustrating. I've based mine on CSS styles and had to deploy some tweaks to make it work. Your layout is very clean and readable and a great source for more cookbook inspiration, very well done ;)

Ana

holy smoke! You know what is sad is that I pseudo-tagged Clothide but I swear I remembered reading it on her site a while back...I am a spaz..

Merci Tarzile, pour des belles paroles.

Jen, three people in this meme tagged Clotilde and, as far as I can see, she did not answer any of the tags. One thing I noticed though, is how many people simply ignore the tags. When I started this, I thought that there would be more people answering than not. I believe now that it is the other way around!

Thanks Fatemeh and Kirk. And yes, although I am a project manager in my professional life, my other hobby is genealogical research.

wait, are there two cookbook memes going on? the one that anthony of spiceblog started has a different set of questions! does this mean we get to tag people twice? LOL

It's shameful that one of the first tagees should take almost 2 months to complete the meme. But at last it is done and dusted
Brilliant roundup, btw, Ana!
I tried to tag some un-usual suspects and I checked first on your handy list that they hadn't already been tagged.
